Method and Madness – A Fiction Workshop
March 29-April 1, 2010 / Instructor: Tim TomlinsonThis fiction workshop is open to both new and experienced writers. New writers will find grounding in technique, experienced writers will find their craft and their imaginations stretched. The course focuses on method (plot, scene, dialogue, voice) and encourages madness (vision, prophecy, subversion). Participants will learn the “rules,” and the rules about throwing the rules away. Exercises, drawn from contemporary and classic novels and short stories, from a wide range of writers including James T. Farrell, Janet Fitch, Zora Neale Hurston, Raymond Carver, David Foster Wallace, Leonard Michaels, Victor Navalle, Zoe Heller, Nell Dunn, are provided.
